{"id":4326,"date":"2015-05-01T16:32:40","date_gmt":"2015-05-01T20:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/?p=4326"},"modified":"2015-05-01T16:58:10","modified_gmt":"2015-05-01T20:58:10","slug":"blender-days-11-12-materials-cycles-l-systems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/blender-days-11-12-materials-cycles-l-systems","title":{"rendered":"Blender Days 11 &#038; 12 &#8211; Materials, Cycles &#038; L-Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Initially setup the materials for Blender&#8217;s default renderer and noticed that when I switched to the new Cycles renderer, I lost the materials.\u00a0 A quick Internet searching revealed a handy addon called <em>Convert Materials to Cycles.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a title=\"download script\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.blender.org\/diffusion\/BAC\/browse\/master\/materials_cycles_converter.py\">materials_cycles_converter.py<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 script created a set of buttons at the bottom of the Properties Editor in the Materials context. You can convert the current material or convert them all.\u00a0 I&#8217;m using Blender 2.69 and the script, which is written for 2.71, worked good for me (color and bump came over).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/VegGen_lsystem-1024x527.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4333\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/VegGen_lsystem-1024x527-1024x527.jpg\" alt=\"VegGen_lsystem-1024x527\" width=\"788\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/VegGen_lsystem-1024x527.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/VegGen_lsystem-1024x527-300x154.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/VegGen_lsystem-1024x527-788x406.jpg 788w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>L-Systems was next up for exploration.<\/p>\n<p>A question came to mind on whether or not the same beautiful branching could be created in Blender, as I had created previously in Houdini.\u00a0 Searching revealed the <a title=\"more results and download link\" href=\"http:\/\/eiler2.wix.com\/treegen#!results\/c1han\">VegGen addon<\/a>, which I&#8217;m going to give a whirl (after some compositing and rigging tutorials).\u00a0 Looks promising, though doesn&#8217;t have the ability to write my own turtle rules.\u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t provide much control&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 so probably simplest to just write an <a title=\"youtube of l-system in python\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hmcpodyj4XQ\">L-system engine in Python<\/a> myself&#8230;\u00a0 probably using the VegGen script as reference (Yay!
