\"My<\/a><\/h4>\n

The last two weeks have been pretty crazy. Back to work in a studio cubical and also attended the Vancouver International Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I started everything off with Monsters<\/a>, and ended if off with the beautiful, French, somewhat depressing The Illusionist<\/a>. In total I saw 28 films<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

  2. Waste Land<\/strong> (trash is art!)<\/li>\n
  3. Cold Fish<\/strong> (violently disturbing)<\/li>\n
  4. R U There?<\/strong> (yes, I am… I’m just sleeping)<\/li>\n
  5. An Ecology of Mind<\/strong> (documentary on the amazing system theories of Gregory Bateson<\/a>)<\/li>\n
  6. Crossing the Mountain<\/strong> (…zzzZZZ)<\/li>\n
  7. David Wants to Fly<\/strong> (documentary on David Lynch and his association w\/ Transcendental Meditation)<\/li>\n
  8. Tree<\/strong> (needed a dose of good drama)<\/li>\n
  9. Philosophies of Life<\/strong> (short film collection that I didn’t have the patience to finish)<\/li>\n
  10. Turn It Loose <\/strong>(breakdancing!)<\/li>\n
  11. 13 Assassins<\/a><\/strong> (live action version Ninja Scroll?)<\/li>\n
  12. Secrets of the Tribe<\/strong> (anthropologists decimating each other’s reputations)<\/li>\n
  13. Drummer’s Dream<\/strong> (luckily they were selling copies on DVD at the door)<\/li>\n
  14. The Man from Nowhere<\/strong> (South Korean action flick w\/ a Korean version of Keanu Reeves)<\/li>\n
  15. Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives <\/strong>(still trying to “get it”, but the ghost monkeys were sweet)<\/li>\n
  16. N\u00e9nette<\/strong> (I \u2665 orangutans)<\/li>\n
  17. Guido Superstar<\/strong> (love them poop gags)<\/li>\n
  18. Into Eternity<\/strong> (now one of my fav documentaries)<\/li>\n
  19. Cell 211<\/strong> (violently beautiful)<\/li>\n
  20. Rubber<\/strong><\/a> (the killer tire could be a cult classic)<\/li>\n
  21. Schooling the World: The White Man’s Last Burden<\/strong> (spreading the gospel without thinking of the consequences)<\/li>\n
  22. Aftershock<\/strong> (wicked earthquake scene followed by Hollywood inspired drama)<\/li>\n
  23. Cities on Speed<\/strong> (documentaries where the titles say it all, “Bogot\u00e1 Change” & “Mumbai Disconnected”)<\/li>\n
  24. When the Devil Knocks<\/strong><\/a> (documentary on a woman with multiple personalities)<\/li>\n
  25. Armadillo<\/strong> (Danish film on the Afgan war)<\/li>\n
  26. The Repeaters<\/strong> (Groundhog day with 3 addicts)<\/li>\n
  27. Plug & Pray<\/strong> (I \u2665 Joseph Weizenbaum)<\/li>\n
  28. The Illusionist<\/strong><\/a> (French animation from creators of Triplets of Bellville<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/a>How to Survive?<\/h4>\n

    1) Bring a water bottle & snacks. You will be downtown all day long, surrounded by Starbucks, McDonalds and $2 pizza slices. Considering you’ll be sitting on your butt all day long, just how much torture do you want your body to endure?<\/p>\n

    2) Sharpie for the marking up of your schedule.<\/p>\n

    3) Learn to live without your phone for a few hours. I was amazed at how insistent the staff were in having the audience turn off their phones. I was even more amazed at how difficult it was for us to follow this suggestion. I must say, I only pulled out my phone a couple times to quickly check the time. I swear!<\/p>\n

    4) Networking. In line I met tons of people that made me regret not having a business card, though we all had smartphones so the problem was easily solved. meeting people in line was also a great way to get suggestions on films. If it wasn’t for the texts from my new friend Michael, I would have missed 13 Assassins, and that would have been tragic.<\/p>\n

    Speaking of “meeting people”, I finally met my doppelganger. According to Michael Hayward<\/a>, there may be potential for me playing a younger version of Wallace Shawn<\/a> (Princess Bride) in his autobiographical documentary.<\/p>\n
