{"id":3905,"date":"2014-03-27T10:41:45","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T14:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/?p=3905"},"modified":"2014-03-27T10:41:45","modified_gmt":"2014-03-27T14:41:45","slug":"bookmarks-in-nautilus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jerslife.com\/word\/bookmarks-in-nautilus","title":{"rendered":"Bookmarks in Nautilus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using Nautilus 3.4.*, I decided it was time to rename\/remove the distracting unused bookmarks in Nautilus (file explorer GUI).<\/p>\n<p>Found <a href=\"http:\/\/askubuntu.com\/questions\/152505\/remove-computer-and-network-categories-from-nautilus-sidebar-ubuntu-12-04-r\" title=\"how to edit bookmarks\">this thread<\/a> which has the solution.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In Nautilus click view > Show Hidden Files then from your home directory go to \/.config\/ in there you will find a file called user-dirs.dirs this contains the entries under &#8216;Computer&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ANYTHING YOU CHANGE<\/p>\n<p>If you change, for example, XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR=&#8221;$HOME\/Downloads to just XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR=&#8221;$HOME\/&#8221; the downloads folder will no longer show up under &#8216;Computer&#8217; in the sidebar.<\/p>\n<p>You can also just comment out every line, in which case it will only show &#8216;Home&#8217;, &#8216;File System&#8217; and &#8216;Trash&#8217;. It will keep those other directories as bookmarks though so you can do what you like with them.<\/p>\n<p>This will not remove the &#8216;Computer&#8217; entry entirely, just remove its entries, but it will make it look considerably cleaner.
